According to a report issued by PatentResult on May 4th, Chinese firms have submitted a greater number of patent applications related to electric vehicle charging and battery swapping than any other country's competitors. They have also advanced key technologies that facilitate a faster and more convenient charging experience.
The report states that from 2010 to 2022, Chinese companies submitted 41,011 patent applications in these industries. Despite the lack of high-ranking Chinese companies, the significant participation of Chinese players in this sector resulted in a total number of applications that exceeded Japanese companies by approximately 50%.
Japanese companies rank second with 26,962 patents. Germany ranks third with 16,340 patents. The United States has 14,325 patents and ranks fourth. South Korea ranks fifth with 11,281 patents.
Out of the amassed patent applications, 17% are related to rapid charging technology while 10% are associated with battery replacement technology, surpassing the 1% to 3% of Japanese, German, and American automobile makers in these areas. Chinese companies are also concentrating on the creation and regulation of charging stations, power transmissions, and wireless charging.
Many Chinese companies prioritized enhancing the charging speed, which is a key step in promoting the widespread adoption of electric vehicles.
The electric vehicle market is rapidly maturing in China, leading to increased competition among companies. The convenience of charging has become an important way to differentiate between different car models.
